PROTECTING OUR
SHARED FUTURES

1,5% EMERGENCY PLEDGE Malmö is a warm invitation to all companies in Malmö to invest into work that tackles climate change locally and globally to save our next generation.

In March 2023 the summarising IPCC report was published and with a heavy message, we drastically need to change the way we’re behaving with the planet and we need to do it now. UN Secretary-General António Guterres said in a statement that;

‘The rate of temperature rise in the last half century is the highest in 2,000 years. Concentrations of carbon dioxide are at their highest in at least two million years. The climate time-bomb is ticking. This report is a clarion call to massively fast-track climate efforts by every country and every sector and on every timeframe. In short, our world needs climate action on all fronts - everything, everywhere, all at once.‘

As a response to the alarming facts, we have started 1,5% Malmö. The call was created by When!When! and sits within the framework of ANON, a new public space in the city centre with the aim to be a node for all local sustainable dialogues. Simultaneously,
it is also a knowledge hub with experts on climate and systems change who regularly scan global work, projects and innovations to see how and where they can be applied to a Swedish setting.

Through a generous business model of investing 1,5% of the yearly profit to a new fund we can collectively invest into work that tackles climate change. With a close working relationship with ANON we would like to believe that every single company in Malmö could participate on terms and conditions that suit them well within the climate actions needed. However, the call is not solely focusing on gathering investments for vital projects on climate change. It is just as much about creating a shared vision within a city and creating an inclusive and positive community where we meet, share and discuss common future outlooks.

Unfortunately there is little time to think if we want to radically change the way we live, work and behave before it’s too late. That means this call is set to activate the local business sector at a large scale within just a few months.

By the end of October 2023 a work group at ANON will download all learnings and facts into a booklet that will be shared at Cop 28 in Dubai in November. We hope that this project can demonstrate the potential power of deep collaboration within a whole city with enormous leaps for the climate.
